Sleeper Cell Interview
This week we’re checking out heavy metal group, Sleeper Cell. We sat down to chat with the guys – Mark, Andy, Lester, Jason and Rob – about how they came together and found out a bit about their upcoming album release.
How did the 5 of you end up forming Sleeper Cell?
Mark originally had a jam spot and knew a drummer as well as a guitar player named Lester. He invited them out. The drummer’s sister was dating Rob, who had recently moved to Ohio from Boston. Sleeper Cell started as a four piece band. After writing some songs we decided to bring in another guitar player to add more texture. Andy auditioned in the spring of 2001 and got the job. After a few different drummers came and went, Jason came to the band around two years ago. We knew he was the final piece of the puzzle.
Did any of you start playing music early?
A few of us started playing at an early age and few others took up our instruments later in life.
Anyone do the high school band thing?
Rob did the high school band thing for a little bit, but then quit so he could play in a band.
Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
Our biggest influences have been Iron Maiden, Metallica, Disturbed, Black Sabbath, Pantera, and Zeppelin. We could probably go on and on though. All of us are involved in the writing process so you end up hearing a multitude of influences in our music. We definitely attribute our democratic approach to our songwriting to the uniqueness of the songs.
Everyone’s a Victim is Sleeper Cell’s first full length CD. What was the recording process like?
A lot of long hours! We wanted this album to capture who and what we are. I think we got what we were after. We can’t wait to see how people respond to it!
The CD is in its final stages of mixing and mastering, and is scheduled to drop in March of 2010. We will be announcing the street date shortly. We’re all absolutely thrilled with the way this album turned out. We have nothing less but the highest expectations for this record. We believe it’s the best CD we’ve done to date. It’s been a long time coming but we really feel comfortable now with our current team and state of affairs. Everything seems to be miraculously falling into place for us.
We’re really loving these guys’ sound. Check out the video for their single, Black, above. To find out more info and upcoming tour dates, visit Sleeper Cell’s MySpace page at www.myspace.com/sleepercellrock and look for that CD soon!
