Happy Presidents’ Day!

How are you going to celebrate George Washington’s and Abe Lincoln’s birthdays?? Do you go all out and bake cakes and read scrolls and stuff? Listen to some Schubert? (Although I guess that would have been more Lincoln’s time, not Washington’s…)

Much like Thanksgiving and Memorial Day, the actual date of President’s Day varies (in order to give people a 3-day weekend off of work). It falls on the third Monday of February every year, so this year, it just happens to be February 15th. Riveting, right?

Happy 2010!

First post of the decade; how exciting!!

What are your plans for this year/decade/century? My goal, for the most part, is to be more adventurous and try to find the fun in everything. It’s always better to be an optimist, right?….Right?

2010

2009 was a wishy washy year, wasn’t it? I mean, on one side, the entertainment industry lost a lot of talent (aka the incredible number of celebrity deaths, aka DJ AM, Bea Arthur, Billy Mays, Brittany Murphy, David Carradine, Dom DeLuise, Farrah Fawcett, James Whitmore, Les Paul, Michael Jackson, Natasha Richardson, Patrick Swayze, Ricardo Montalban, Stephen Gately, Walter Cronkite), but then on the other side, it gained a lot of talent, too: Lady Gaga, Drake, Owl City, Kevin Rudolf, etc.

So what’s in store for 2010?  Who knows?!

Merry Christmas!

Sorry I’m a little late, Mobilers.

Christmas is almost over here on the west coast and I have to say, I’m not ready for it to end! I love all of the festivities and the goings-on of the holiday season. I can’t believe 2009 is almost over! Actually, wait…I can’t believe the entire DECADE is almost over! Wow.

I hope you all enjoyed warm fires, good food, great music, and entertaining movies. I saw Sherlock Holmes and I think it was the perfect movie to see on Christmas day. I’m sure Nine would have been good, too, actually. But Holmes was fun and lighthearted. Plus, you’ve got to love Robert Downey, Jr. and the incredible comeback he’s had.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend, the rest of the year, and the rest of the decade! 2010 is right around the corner and I’m hoping it will bring new adventures!!

12 Last-Minute Gifts for Tech Addicts

Its crunch time, friends. Christmas Day is Friday and you’ve been putting off your holiday shopping for the tech addict in your life for weeks. Fear not, this is a blame free zone. We know how hard (and annoying) it is to shop for techy people, the ones who live their lives all glowy and snide about their gadgets. Plus, the thought of heading to a mall right now makes everyone break out into a sweat of excuses.

But it’s Christmas! Here’s a list of 12 last minute gifts that the tech addict in your life is sure to love, plus some you may want to avoid. Thank us after you’ve finished your shopping.

What NOT to get…

There’s a fine line in tech that separates the “omg cool!” from the “what the heck do I do with this?”. In case you weren’t sure, the two items below fall on that other side of the line. Here’s what not to get even though you kind of want to:

Speaker Cellphone Charms: Yeah. These actually aren’t cute OR funny. Besides just being odd, why would anyone pay $55 for a tiny cube speaker to play their ringtone or MP3s on? They’re called earbuds, people. Plug them into your phone and stop making us judge you for your lame toys. Cause we are.

Digital Photo Frames: I know the commercials of grandma looking misty-eyed at her 4 blonde grandchildren bring a tear to everyone’s eye… but it’s only like that in the commercials. In real life, you have to move your memory card from the camera in order to view the pictures. And then keep it there. Forever. What if you want to actually use your camera? Well, then you need to spend $40 on additional memory cards or stop displaying the photo you cherish so much. So people say “worth it”, we just say “hassle”.

Now that you know what to avoid, what actually does qualify as a cool and interesting gadget for the mobile and tech junkie in your household? Here’s our gift to you: The Last Minute Holiday Gift Guide. You’re sure to find something for all the tech and mobile junkies on your list.

Happy Chanukah!

Today is Day 5 of the Jewish celebration of Chanukah, which lasts for 8 days in the winter. The holiday depends on the Hebrew calendar, which heavily relies on the phases of the moon and sun (a lunisolar calendar). This year, Chanukah began on December 11 of the Gregorian calendar, and will last until this Saturday, December 19.

chanukah

In the Jewish tradition, Chanukah celebrates the triumph of light over dark, or, good over evil. The great miracle was that on a certain night over two thousand years ago, oil (for a lamp) that should have lasted only one night lasted for eight days and nights. So, that’s why every year, Chanukah is celebrated over a period of eight days, and on each day a new candle is lit on a menorah.
