Huey Lewis: “I Am the World”

So now that everyone has seen the new “We Are the World” video, and everyone has an opinion…we can start to look at other reactions!  Even though there were dozens of famous artists who participated in the original video (and many are still alive/popular/performing), virtually none of them were called back to participate in the remake.  As Jimmy Kimmel says in the video, Lionel Richie even wrote the song, but he just took a back seat when it came to the 25th anniversary edition.

So Huey Lewis took a stand and decided to poke fun at the new version.  I have to say I really enjoyed watching this video.  We haven’t heard from Lewis in awhile but we all know exactly who he is (”The Power of Love” is still one of the greatest movie songs ever), and would have loved to see him in the new “We Are the World” video.  Past and present could have been combined really well– but, instead, “singers” like Miley Cyrus were invited.  Wtf?

Stephen Colbert Sings With Alicia Keys

I know I’ve mentioned in the past that I’m not a huge fan of Alicia Keys. That hasn’t changed. You know what else hasn’t changed, though? How much I love Stephen Colbert. Yeah, I said it.

Anyway, Alicia Keys appeared on The Colbert Report recently to promote her new album, The Element of Freedom. She performed “Empire State of Mind” (part II) on the show, but Colbert decided to jump in and add his own personal twist to the song. It seems as if he wrote a new verse about his experiences with and observations of New York.

The Biggest One-Hit Wonders We Wish Had Made More

Have you ever heard a song you liked so much that you got REALLY into the band, only to have the song turn out to be their only hit? Yeah, we’ve all been there. Many bands that ended up being one-hit wonders produced a trendy song that had no artistic value at all (e.g. Blue [Da Ba Dee]). But some are really baffling, because they’re great songs. You find yourself asking, “Why? WHY did they only have ONE hit song??” Consider “Relax” by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. I mean, Zoolander wouldn’t have been the same without it! Here’s a list of our favorites—both trendy and epic.

10. “Mambo No. 5″ by Lou Bega

To Lou Bega’s discredit, he didn’t actually write “Mambo No. 5″ himself. The song (or at least the music from the song) was written by Pérez Prado back in 1949. Lou Bega covered the song and gave it the same name, but added his ridiculous lyrics. He took nine women’s names and added words around them.

Regardless, who can really say that they didn’t expect Lou Bega to make at least one more hit song? I mean, it reached #1 on charts in the U.S., Canada, the UK, and Australia, along with a bunch of other European countries. I think we need a little bit of Lou Bega in our life.

Do You Do This At Your Office?

Something like this really takes time and effort. And dedication. And charisma…and a lot of it, because you are about to reveal to the world (or at least the world on YouTube) that you know every single word and beat of the Backstreet Boys’ song, “I Want it That Way.”

That being said, I really wish I could have taken part in this. I’ll say it right now—I listened to the Backstreet Boys. I know the lyrics. (Granted, I would like to make two clarifications: 1. I am now 21 so when the BBs were popular I was an 11-12 year old girl, so it was perfectly acceptable behavior, and 2. I liked NSYNC better anyway.)

There’s no real significance to this video—it’s just a fun pick-me up if you need something entertaining for a few minutes. For other games, humorous websites, and general entertainment, follow us on Facebook!

10 Artists of the 1990s Who Could Use a Comeback

Let’s face it: there are a lot of bands we would like to see come out of oblivion, either because we are huge fans or just to laugh at them once they make it back. It would be really entertaining to see some of these artists reunite and get their acts together! Here’s a list of ten artists from the 1990s who could use a comeback, for better or for worse:

10. Barenaked Ladies

Barenaked Ladies Comeback

In the late 1990s, these guys were huge. Their song, “One Week” reached #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1998, helping their album, Stunt, sell over 4 million copies. After “One Week,” the Barenaked Ladies were superstars, and went on to make a few more hits on the heels of quality lyrics like “Chickity China the Chinese chicken/You have a drumstick and your brain stops tickin’”

In 2001, the Barenaked Ladies released a Greatest Hits album, with 17 singles and 2 new tracks. When did they ever release 17 singles? Releasing a Greatest Hits album so soon after they had reached superstardom almost guaranteed that they were finished. But in 2008, Steven Page ended things for good when he was arrested for cocaine possession and the band parted ways. If I had a million dollars, I’d put this group back together again! More...
