Google Earth Adds Real-Time Weather

Google Earth has been sort of 3D for a little while now, with accurate topography and elevation, etc. But now the engineers over at Google have come up with the next level of Google Earth awesomeness: now, users who have the application can check on rain and snow in real-time, and they can also see what the conditions actually look like.

This isn’t your average weatherman green-screen that just shows little clip art graphics of rain, snow, and clouds.  This is high-tech. To see the conditions, users will enable a “cloud layer” on the map, which shows you exactly what the clouds look like in a given area.  Then the user can zoom in and see the rain and snow levels in that particular spot.

As of right now, this feature is only available in certain parts of North America and Europe, but I’m sure that Google is working hard to make sure this is a global feature.  But, to make it simple for North American and European residents, there is a radar layer that shows precisely where one can view the rainy and snowy weather patterns.

Tasteful or Tasteless?

I read from Paste Magazine that Anne Frank’s Diaries are set to be turned into graphic novels, with permission from the Anne Frank House Museum in Amsterdam.

The museum “has commissioned author Sid Jacobson and artist Ernie Colón to turn Frank’s legendary diary into a graphic novel” so that a vaster audience can know and experience the struggles of Anne Frank during the Holocaust.

Lost Series Finale on Sunday!

Are you excited for the very last episode of LOST?!  …No?  Well, whatever; I am!!  P.S. there may be a few spoilers if I can’t help myself, so just be weary.

lost

In six seasons, we still know very little about the island.  And, let’s be honest, we don’t know all that much about some of the characters, either.  For example, we’ve seen a bunch of flashbacks, right?  That was the structure of the first two or three seasons of the show.  Then we got flashforwards.  Now we’re getting flash sideways.  Which do we believe and think about?  I know that the timing kind of works so that all three exist, but it’s still ridiculously confusing and needs to be addressed!  How will it all end!?

Rima Fakih Crowned Miss USA

Miss Michigan, AKA Rima Fakih, was crowned as 2010’s Miss USA on Sunday.  The 24-year-old is a Lebanese immigrant whose parents came to the USA when she was just a baby.

Her win actually shows a lot of firsts for the Miss USA pageant.  She is the first Muslim to win the prize.  To expand it even further, she is the first Arab-American to win the crown, as well.  I think she was just as surprised as anyone else to have heard her name called as this year’s Miss USA, as she nearly stumbled on her gown when she was walking over to collect her crown.  She was, understandably, really overwhelmed.

2010 Winter Olympics Come to a Close

So, the Olympics are over.  I’m not sure about you, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching the activities this year!  Usually, people in the United States kind of brush off the winter games, but for some reason I was just drawn to all of the events.  The USA usually under-performs in the winter Olympics, so maybe that’s why we tend not to care as much.  But, this year, we won the medal count!  Canada won the most gold medals…but, whatever, they had the home court advantage.

vancouver

Unfortunately for the USA, Canada walked away with the biggest win: the gold in men’s hockey.  The game was so intense and incredibly exciting to watch!  Canada had a 2-1 lead over the USA with 50 seconds left in the third period.  Out of nowhere, Parise scored a goal for the USA with 24.4 seconds left in the match, sending the game into overtime.  In under ten minutes of sudden death overtime, Sidney Crosby scored Canada’s winning goal.  *sigh*

Oh well, it’s not as if the USA didn’t come out with epic wins!  Everyone still remembers Shaun White’s insane Double McTwist 1260 debut, Apolo Ohno’s record 7th and 8th medals, and Evan Lysacek’s upset gold over Russia (who even remembers his name, really? Putin thinks he’s a winner, but we don’t).  We were #1 in overall medal count by a long shot!  We came out with 37 medals (9 gold, 15 silver, 13 bronze), Germany followed behind us with 30 (10 gold, 13 silver, 7 bronze), and Canada behind them with 26 total, even though they led the count in gold medals (14 gold, 7 silver, 5 bronze).

In all seriousness, congratulations to all of the athletes for their amazing athletic efforts!

Overall I think it’s been a really exciting few weeks…but I seriously can’t wait until London 2012! USA! USA!
