30 Seconds to Mars Covers “Bad Romance”

Cooooool!

I know Jared Leto, lead singer of 3o Seconds to Mars, is often on the outs with fans and such (for his attitude), but I have to admit I don’t really mind his singing.  Plus, he’s a good actor, too.  Maybe he’s just misunderstood…he seems kind of like a weird guy, anyway.  I digress.

It seems to be a trend, that people have started everywhere, to cover a Lady Gaga song.  Fans and other musicians (e.g. Hayley Williams from Paramore) are all intoxicated by Miss Gaga.  Can you blame them?!  I think “Bad Romance” is one of the best pop songs ever.  Seriously.

Anyway, so Jared Leto and 30 Seconds to Mars decided to do their own cover of the insanely good pop song.  Seems strange that a rock/punk band would cover it, right?  And seems as if it’d be really bad…but it’s actually not!  It’s gloomy and brooding and it works (I think).  However, that being said, I was listening to it and I realized it works only for a very specific reason: it sounds good because we know it is a cover.  I don’t think that they could ever release it as a single, you know?  But because it’s already been big and it’s a recognizable song, we can connect to it even though it sounds very different.  I think it’s the same case as Chris Cornell when he covered Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean.”  Same thing.

So check out 30 Seconds to Mars’s cover of “Bad Romance” and think about it!  It’s good.  Oh and P.S. if you haven’t heard Chris Cornell’s version of “Billie Jean,” you should.  Like now.  Go.
