Celebs to Give Up Twitter
Celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Usher, and Alicia Keys have joined a campaign called Digital Life Sacrifice, which is affiliated with Alicia Keys’s charity, Keep a Child Alive. The artists are going to sign off of all social media, including Twitter and Facebook, on Wednesday until they raise $1 million on World AIDS Day.
These celebrities, and others (Ryan Seacrest, Elijah Wood, some Kardashians, Serena Williams, etc.) have filmed their “last tweet and testament” videos that will be turned into ads promoting the charity.
Says Keys, “It’s so important to shock you to the point of waking up,” Keys said. “It’s not that people don’t care or it’s not that people don’t want to do something, it’s that they never thought of it quite like that.”
Donations will be taken via text message and bar-code technology. Between Gaga, Keys, Timberlake, and all of the others, I don’t think they’ll have any trouble at all raising this $1 million. Gaga alone has over 7 million Twitter followers! Check out the action (or lack of action) on Wednesday.
