Did You Watch the AMAs?
If you watched the AMAs on Sunday, you’d know that Justin Bieber was the big winner, taking home all four awards for which he was nominated. Said the singer, “I can’t stop smiling.” He took home the biggest award of the evening, Favorite Artist, defeating mega-stars such as Eminem, Usher, Lady Gaga, and Katy Perry.
At first I thought, How is this possible?
Then, I realized, it is not a music or producers academy that decides on the winners; instead, it’s a poll of “music buyers,” which, in essence, is a poll of the public audience. So then it hit me: Justin Bieber fans would, of course, dominate over anyone else’s. That’s my theory, at least, on why he took home all four awards.
Other winners of the night were the Black Eyed Peas and Taylor Swift, both of whom gave exciting performances of their newest singles: “The Time (Dirty Bit)” and “Back to December,” respectively. I also enjoyed Katy Perry’s performance of “Firework,” which was probably the most visually appealing performance equipped with lots of fire. Oh, and Rihanna’s opening sequence/medley of “Only Girl (In The World),” “Love The Way You Lie Pt. II,” and “What’s My Name?” was fun, too.
