New Album: Adele
I know; I usually listen to two new albums per week for this segment. However, there has been a lot of hype surrounding Adele’s sophomore album, 21, and there’s not much else being released this week that will be as chart-topping.
It’s amazing to think that Adele is just 22 years old, but she is, and she’s breaking records all over the globe. 21 was released in the UK on January 24th; it debuted at #1 on their Billboard charts and still remains in the top 5 after a month. Oh, it has also already gone 2x platinum in the UK before even having been released in the United States.
Adele’s first album was called 19 and was released when she was, coincidentally, 19 years old. She recorded 21 when she was 21, so, naturally, she kept the same theme in titling. But, I digress. 21 is just as rich as 19 was, so I’m sure it will be ever-popular (again, much like 19 has remained). There are eleven new tracks on the album, and her voice sounds just as velvety as ever.
You may remember Adele’s most famous track in the US, “Chasing Pavements,” but I think she has come such a long way since then. Listen to “Don’t You Remember” and her first single off the album, “Rolling in the Deep,” and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. Actually, scratch that; just listen to the whole thing!
