New Albums: Arcade Fire and Lady Gaga
Arcade Fire – The Suburbs
Canadian indie band Arcade Fire is back with a bang with a new album! It’s their first since 2004. That being said, though, I think people can always appreciate a long break between albums if the band produces quality work, don’t you think? There was a 3-year gap between their first album, Funeral, and their second album, Neon Bible; but in that break, people could discover how much they loved Arcade Fire. So, on the Billboard 200, they jumped from peaking at #131 with Funeral to #2 with Neon Bible.
So now they’re back with The Suburbs, and they’ve packed 16 new tracks into the album.
I really like the title track, actually. “The Suburbs” has such an indie feel to it, but it could easily be mainstream, too. Arcade Fire turns eccentricity into relatability, and I like that.
They’re a physically large band, too, with 7 members. What’s nice and unique about them is that they have 2 women in the band, too, who provide vocals. It gives them a very different sound. Sometimes you’ll hear male lead-voices, and at others you’ll hear female lead-voices. Mixing it up a little.
I like “Half Light I” a lot, and also “Month of May,” which they used as the first single off of The Suburbs. Check out the new album now!
Lady Gaga – The Remix
This isn’t technically new music from Miss Gaga. Rather, it is a compilation of some of her best songs, remixed to have a different sound.
We all know that I love Gaga, but there is also something about these remixes that brings a new feel to these ten songs. “Poker Face,” for example, sounds completely different. On this remix CD, it’s got this techno beat to it. It’s sped up and made for dancing.
“Love Game,” too, probably sounds the most different from any of the other songs. It’s very clubby, and very Gaga. It’s bizarre and great and totally original. Actually…”Telephone” and “Alejandro” sound like completely different songs, too. Doesn’t “Alejandro” sound like it should be in an 80s movie? Just listen to it; you’ll know what I mean.
Check out this remix album! I think it’s gonna be big; Gaga never disappoints!
