New Albums: Avenged Sevenfold and Best Coast

Happy Friday! TGIF, right?  Got some gooood albums this week.  And before you wonder (as if you were wondering), I did not listen to Tom Jones’s new gospel album.  Nope nope nope.

Avenged Sevenfold – Nightmare

These guys in Avenged Sevenfold have been around the music industry for about 11 years, and Nightmare is their 5th studio album.  Their most successful album came out in 2003, entitled City of Evil.  Seems like a pattern, doesn’t it?

Nightmare has a theme going on: each of the songs is haunting, and each of the titles matches the gloomy and frightening mood.  It seems strange for me to say, but “Buried Alive,” I think, is my favorite track on the 11-track album. Creepy.

If you like this kind of music, then Avenged Sevenfold is probably on your top lists, right?  With all the screaming and heavy-hitting lyrics, there is still music going on in the background.  It’s interesting to listen to, is what I’m saying.

The first single off the album is “Nightmare,” and it’s already at #51 on the Billboard Hot 100, and I’m sure it’ll just climb from there.  They’re getting ready to announce tour dates that are coming up, as well, so keep a lookout and check out Nightmare!

Best Coast – Crazy for You

Best Coast is an indie rock trio from California (hence “Best Coast”), and Crazy for You is their debut album.  However, over the last few months, I’ve been hearing a lot about them.  That’s good, right? As a new band, it’s difficult to get recognition even *before* your first album is released.

The album is very beachy, which I like.  But there are also solemn and gloomy melodies and lyrics, which I also like.  It’s got a nice balance to it!  It’s like The Runaways meet The Beach Boys.  Right?  Any others?

Check out the album as a whole for sure, and check out my favorite tracks “When I’m With You” and “Each and Every Day” because they’re so different (but equally good)!
