New Albums: Deadmau5 and Daft Punk (Tron)
I thought I’d stray from the usual super mainstream stuff this week and go for artists known for their sound mixing and techno beats. Ready?
Deadmau5 – 4×4=12
Deadmau5 (pronounced “dead mouse”) is a stage name for a DJ named Joel Thomas Zimmerman. Obviously, though, he’s much more easily recognized with the stage name and creepy costume (just a mouse head with giant ears).
4×4=12 is Deadmau5’s 10th album in five years. Impressive, no? The album is really trippy, too, but in a good way. There’s a good mix of upbeat techno and melancholy electronic mixes. It’s a very moody album, to which, naturally, I’m attracted to.
I hadn’t really ever heard a lot of Deadmau5 before, but I knew he has been growing more and more popular. Check out 4×4=12 now!
Daft Punk – Tron Legacy
Whoever commissioned Daft Punk to do all of the music for Disney’s Tron: Legacy…GENIUS.
The French electronic-music duo has been getting a lot of good publicity, and they’ve sold a few million records worldwide. Their last studio album came in 2005 and reached #1 on the US Billboard charts. So five years later, they’re back with 22 composed songs on the Tron: Legacy soundtrack.
This album, I’d say, is a bit different from their usual stuff, though. It contains a lot of string instrumental music typical for a movie score. But, they add their techno twists to every song, and it all sounds great. I love this album. I like Hans Zimmer, but I think (from what I hear) this beats the Inception score, overall. Check it out!
