New Albums: Eminem and Ozzy Osbourne
Interesting combination, eh?
Eminem – Recovery
A lot of hype has come with this album. Since Eminem’s “comeback” to the music industry in 2009, Eminem has been as popular as ever. (Although, to be fair, I never really knew he had “retired” or taken a break or something…)
His latest album, Recovery, is the rapper’s 7th studio album, and contains 17 new tracks. Wow…that’s a lot of tracks! Why not just release Recovery with 11 tracks and then come back in a few months and release Recovery 2.0 with 6 bonus songs? Guess Eminem’s not in it for the money?
Anyway, the whole album sounds, for lack of a better way to describe this, very Eminem. If you listen to his old stuff and then listen to “Cold Wind Blows,” right off the bat, you’ll hear the similarities. Why fix what’s not broken, right? He knows what he wants to do, and he does it very well. He has remained relevant for a decade and a half, which is commendable in itself, and still produces his fast-talking, insult-dealing, witty lyrics.
Ozzy Osbourne – Scream
It’s been a few years since Ozzy Osbourne released his solo album Black Rain in 2007. The King of Darkness is back with Scream, which is his 11th studio solo album; he released over a dozen albums with his heavy metal band Black Sabbath.
Scream is pretty much what I expected from Osbourne. It’s dark and haunting, and everything I’m sure an Ozzy fan is going to appreciate. I’m fairly certain it’s a bit tamer than the stuff he produced in the 70s and 80s with Black Sabbath, but what do you expect? He is much older now, so I’m glad he’s calmed down at least a little bit!
The album offers 11 new tracks from Osbourne. I have to say, “Let It Die” and “Time” stand out to me more than the others. They’re unique and interesting. Plus it makes you wonder just a little bit more about what goes through Osbourne’s head, you know? Don’t you ever wonder what he’s thinking? Must be a clusterf*ck in his brain!
Check out Scream now! Who knows how long Ozzy’s next little hiatus will last? (Assuming he takes one at all.)
