New Albums: Kylie Minogue and Enrique Iglesias
There are a lot of good-lookin’ new albums out this week! Bret Michaels, Big Boi, How to Destroy Angels (with Nine Inch Nails front man Trent Raznor), Kelis, Despicable Me Soundtrack… but I thought I’d focus on two other heavy-hitters.
Kylie Minogue – Aphrodite
Though Aussie pop singer Kylie Minogue is much bigger and more famous in her home country, she still holds her own as an artist in the United States, too. Her album Fever in 2001 went platinum here (5x platinum in Australia), earning her a steady following.
Her latest album, Aphrodite, comes three years after her album X was released in 2007. Believe it or not, this is the pop artist’s 11th studio album! I didn’t realize she’s been around for so long, but I guess her popularity has only been growing in the United States over the last decade or so.
So Aphrodite is like walking right into an 80s dance club, only with a few modern enhancements. Think about that while listening to “Put Your Hands Up (If You Feel Love)”…can’t you hear a little bit of Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical“? Come to think of it, she’s Australian, too…
If you like to feel the rhythm and movement in a pop song, then Aphrodite will be like a dream for you. The first single off the album, “All The Lovers” is probably my favorite, so kudos on a good choice of debut single. The second single, which will be released soon, is “Get Outta My Way,” and is conveniently the second song on the album list, as well.
Overall, Aphrodite contains 12 new tracks from the pop idol. Check it out!
Enrique Iglesias – Euphoria
Euphoria is Enrique Iglesias’s 9th studio album…however, it will be his very first bilingual album! Before this, Iglesias has released four studio albums in Spanish, and four studio albums in English, and all eight of them have had major success in the United States.
It has been three years since Iglesias’s last album, and *eight* years since his last studio album in Spanish! I’m glad he’s revisiting some of his roots and releasing a bilingual album…keeps it different and interesting. Unfortunately I don’t speak Spanish, but that doesn’t matter: music is a universal language!
There’s already a music video out for “Cuando Me Enamoro,” the first single off the album. There have also been three other singles released since then (wow!). “I Like It,” featuring Pitbull, which is currently at #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 (and also has a music video), “Heartbeat,” featuring Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls, and “No Me Digas Que No.”
There are ten new tracks on the album, and they’re all pretty good. “Ayer” kind of sounds like “Hero,” just in Spanish, though. Other than that, I always enjoy when “I Like It” comes on the radio! It’s very techno-pop. I also really like “Dirty Dancer” featuring Usher. It’s good to have you back, Enrique!
Check out Euphoria today!
