New Albums: Weezer and Linkin Park
Weezer – Hurley
Yes, you read that correctly. Weezer’s new album is called Hurley, and the album cover is just a big picture of Jorge Garcia’s character Hurley from Lost. What’s interesting is that I don’t think any of the 14 songs off the album actually have to do with Hurley…it’s just kind of non sequitur. And that’s okay with me!
I was reading about this album, and on one of the pages I was reading, Hurley was listed as a “power pop”-genre album. What is power pop? What other artists and albums would be included in the power pop arena? Beyonce? Gaga? But they’re nothing like Weezer! Anyway…
So Hurley is the band’s 8th album; can you believe it?! Their first was released in 1994. They’ve come a long way… There are 14 new tracks, and my personal favorite is their current single, “Memories.” Check it out!
Linkin Park – A Thousand Suns
When it comes to rock albums, Linkin Park has been dominating over the last few years. They’ve been winning Grammys, MTV Awards… even though they’ve only released three albums prior to A Thousand Suns!
Each of their previous albums has gone multiplatinum all over the world. Again….dominating. So I’m sure their expectations for their latest albums are extremely high! With 3 other #1 albums, I’m sure Linkin Park will do just fine with their fourth.
The new album contains a whopping 15 new tracks, which is great. The first single off the album, “Catalyst” is particularly good, and sits at #35 on the Billboard Hot 100. I’m sure it’ll keep climbing the charts, and I wouldn’t be remotely surprised if A Thousand Suns shot to #1 at its debut on the Billboard 200 this week! Check out the album today!
