Sting, Elton John and Lady Gaga Team Up
What a pair–Elton John and Gaga! We know they’re great already (if you watched their performance on the Grammys), but this is going to be cool. They’ve locked gears with Sting to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York for the semi-annual Rainforest Fund benefit concert, which will be held this year on May 13.
What’s great about this concert isn’t just that these huge recording artists–Sting, Elton, Lady Gaga, and Shirley Bassey–are going to sing or play together, it’s that they’re doing it to save the rainforests! There are so many social and political issues that people fight for today (which, don’t get me wrong, is great), that we seem to forget to go back to our roots sometimes. The earth can’t survive without these ecosystems, and it’s nice that a few of these gigantic stars remember and try to raise money for them.
Sting heads up the concert every year as a co-founder (with his wife, Trudie), and over the last two decades, they’ve helped raise over $30 million for the forests and their preservation. Says Styler, “One of the things about this night, the audience comes expecting to see unusual combinations of singers. Because I’ve never recorded it, everyone let’s their hair down. We raise a good amount of money for what I consider to be an incredibly important cause, but they have one heck of a night.”
Tickets for this event go on sale in April and can be found at rainforestfoundationfund.org. I wish I could go–this looks like a crazy and amazing group of performers in one venue! Gaga is even taking a small break from her huge European tour just for this night. I wish Trudie did record it–that’d be awesome! But, I guess that’s not the point. Oh well, good luck to everyone who’s looking to get tickets! Get me one, too?
