What’s Up With Rihanna’s Lyrics?
I know I mentioned this last week, but I’m kind of wondering…what is up with Rihanna’s lyrics?! Now there are two songs that I’ve discovered that are being debated. On one hand, the lyrics make sense and fit with the song. On the other hand, the lyrics still make sense but are really, really strange.
Last week, I talked about my confusion over some lyrics in “What’s My Name?” featuring Drake, and how I thought the line was “Hey boy, I really wanna see if you can go downtown with a girl like me,” but that there’s debate that the actual lyric (and what I have now conceded IS the real lyric) is “Hey boy, I really wanna see if you can go longtemps with a girl like me.” Sure, it makes sense, but doesn’t “downtown” sound less strange?
So now I’ve learned that the first line of the first verse in “Only Girl (In The World)” has been debated as well. The first few times I listened to it, I had no clue what she was saying, so I always thought of it in my head as: “I want you to love me like I’m a wsdruiewjhskdf.” Pretty, I know. So then I decided to look up the lyrics. I found three different versions, two of which are hilarious:
“I want you to love me like I’m a hot ride.” — It sounds nothing like the song, but it’s probably what was intended.
“I want you to love me like I’m a hot guy.” — Probably not accurate. She can’t hide too much in the clothes she wears.
“I want you to love me like I’m a hot pie.” — This is my favorite, and what the song sounds the most like. Don’t believe me? Take a listen. It sounds as if she says “pie,” and I’ve concluded that whether or not those are the real lyrics, that’s how I will sing them out loud to myself in the car.
What do you think? What are the lyrics? Let me know on Twitter!
