So recently, Oprah announced that she is holding a contest (in the form of a reality show, of course) that will give one lucky winner a show of his or her own. The show can be whatever the person (who will become the host) is passionate about.
One contestant by the name of Zach Anner has a great story and an ambitious goal: he is a wheelchair-bound guy with cerebral palsy who is looking to be the host of an adventurous, unusual travel show. He doesn’t want to plan “the perfect vacation,” or even anything close to it. He wants to have the strangest, most feared experiences while traveling. He gives the example of having your wallet, money, passport, whatever, all stolen. And also having to climb up a mountain or something.
So this guy sent in his audition tape with no expectations, which I think makes the video even more genuine. The whole thing is funny, clever, touching, and inspiring, and I think this 3 minutes of footage has put him in the front-running for this show. He has over 2.5 million votes from viewers to be a finalist on Oprah’s show. After watching it, I really hope he wins, too! I’d watch his show!
Anner has gotten support from people all over the country, including major stars like John Mayer. Mayer recorded a video to Anner after he made a “Thanks, Internet!” and gave Mayer a little shout out. John then reciprocated and told Anner, via video blog, that once Anner gets his own show (and Mayer is confident that he will), he will write and record the theme song himself. Sounds good to me! In case you are curious, Anner’s video response to Mayer’s video response is just as amusing as his audition video.
