Glasses-less 3D?

In video game form??!  Coooool!

Let’s be honest: there is a major 3D fad going on right now. It seems as if nearly every movie being released right now is in 3D, don’t you think?  There are some movies (such as Avatar) that I don’t mind seeing in 3D…but all these kids movies and stuff?  Just another way to get people to pay $20 per movie ticket.

Anyway, enough ranting. One of the major bummers for 3D-viewing is the absurdity of the glasses that you have to wear, right?  Well Nintendo has been working on a video game device that plays 3D games for which you don’t need the silly glasses!  I have to admit that would be pretty cool.  I’d pay a little extra to play a 3D video game.  Think of a giant Mario yelling “it’s-a-meeeeeeee” as he’s running toward you, out of the screen…awesome.  I don’t know why he’s giant; I think it was to make it seem more intimidating.

This device that Nintendo has been working on is a hand-held device, so it isn’t a console.  But that’s okay!  In order to have the special 3D effects, this little thing has to have several different cameras on it in order to project the images in a way that they appear to be 3D without your needing the glasses.  I’ll take that!

So far, Nintendo has updated some of their most popular games like Mario Kart, Kid Icarus, and StarFox64.  However, they’ve also been working with EA to develop 3D versions of their big games, such as The Sims 3.  Nintendo has also been talking to and working with other video game developers and companies so that this device could be really versatile and convenient for users.  Even Madden NFL players will be able to get in on the 3D action.

This “Nintendo 3DS” will be on the market pretty soon, and I have to say, I can’t wait to see what it’s like!
