Happy Mother’s Day!
Technically Mother’s Day isn’t until Sunday…but shouldn’t *every* day be mother’s day? ![]()

Treat your mom with flowers, brunch, mimosas, anything her heart desires. It’s the least we can do, right? Hopefully the weather will be nice and you can go for a walk and enjoy the spring day. Maybe that’s a conspiracy…no wonder Mother’s Day falls in the globally-perfect-weather season (although I think it may be raining in Bogota. Could be some lightning, too).
There’s some interesting history behind this holiday, though.
Social activist Ann Jarvis created the holiday in America to promote motherhood and celebrate family unification after the end of the American Civil War. It’s widely recognized that she had tried to get recognition of the holiday as early as the 1870s and 1880s. However, it wasn’t until after her death in May of 1908 when her daughter, Anna, began to campaign for Mother’s Day to be a holiday as well.
In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson declared the second Sunday of May as Mother’s Day.
Have a happy day!
