Apple Tablet Coming in September!
According to Wired magazine, Apple will release an over-sized iPod Touch, which resembles a tablet. It will feature the same qualities as an iPod Touch, but with a little added bonus: the screen will be 10 inches in diameter (diagonally).
The product will also aim to get people to buy full albums more than just buying a single song. The album artwork will be clearer and nicer to look at, and it will be easier to manage. Apple is in talks with record labels to try to figure out exactly how they can sell more full albums. Users will be able to play their music while interactively using and looking at the album’s artwork. That’s actually a huge improvement. I bought a deluxe Keane album online once, with this huge file filled with amazing album artwork. However, I had to open the artwork as if it were its own song—I couldn’t listen to or play anything while reading this file. It was odd.
I’m thinking, right now, that this device is going to be popular. Like Wired and the Financial Times both said, if Apple can get the battery life to last a long time, even with a high resolution and full-color screen, then Amazon might have something to worry about. The Kindle has been pretty successful for Amazon so far, selling hundreds of thousands of these devices.
If this new tablet comes equipped with a Kindle-like book feature, but in color, it may just be unbeatable. Not to mention, people watch movies on their iPods all the time. I’m not going to lie, I may or may not have a Disney movie stored on my old 2nd (or 3rd, I can’t remember) generation iPod. The iPod Touch screen is much larger than that, even, so my cartoon characters would already be substantially larger on that screen. Triple the size of the iPod Touch screen and you’re at hurtless-eyes levels! Movies, TV shows, music videos, etc. will all look amazing on this new tablet.
Though there have been rumors about this new device from Apple, its development has actually been pretty secretive. Finally the Financial Times confirmed the project’s development. With a release date as early as September of this year, consumers can get geared up for the holiday season!
