Disney Gets Tapulous
Did you have a good holiday weekend? Lots of sun and fun? Great! So did Disney, apparently.
The powerhouse company announced that it has acquired a mobile (specifically iPhone) software development company called Tapulous, based in Palo Alto, California. If you haven’t heard of the company by its own name, then I’m sure you’ve heard of it because of its monster-selling iPhone “Tap Tap” games.
Yes, this company is responsible for all of the awesome Guitar Hero meets Rock Band meets the iPhone games that you buy and play, and distract yourself for hours with, on your phone. They’ve been successfully taking the music industry’s hottest artists and songs and turning them into playable iPhone gaming entertainment commodities.
So now, as of the last few days, Disney has bought the company Tapulous and they are gearing up together to create applications that are Disney-themed (or so I assume). What can we expect now? Jonas Brothers Revolution? Miley Cyrus Revenge? I’m out; I can’t name anymore of the stars the kids are into these days. Oh, wait! Selena Gomez Tap Tap Revolution Revenge? How about that one? Or maybe just a “Radio Disney” game, in general, with an assortment of Disney songs.
Or, maybe, Disney will sink back into its roots and create themed Tap Tap games that feature Disney classic songs from Cinderella or Snow White or Pocahontas. Maybe all of the above? Either way, I’m interested to see what this mega giant of a company does with the up-and-comer that is Tapulous. We’ll find out soon enough!
