Samsung to Give Away Free Galaxy Phones
…to frustrated iPhone 4 users!
Sounds like a hoax, right? Nope! According to Wired UK, “An account on Twitter called @samsungukmobile is contacting people who’ve tweeted about their difficulties with the handset, asking them to submit their contact details to receive a free handset.”
Samsung believes in its product so strongly that the folks over there are absolutely sure that the Galaxy is superior to the iPhone, and that users will be much happier with the Samsung device. Sounds like a very interesting campaign to me! It’s one of those things that can either go amazingly well or horribly wrong, don’t you think? It’s like the Old Spice YouTube/Twitter campaign (www.twitter.com/oldspice), but with actual cost involved for Samsung (other than an actor’s salary, that is).
The Galaxy phone is powered by Google’s Android operating system, which is becoming increasingly popular in itself, especially over the last few months.
It will be very interesting to see how this plays out for Samsung. It is a legitimate campaign that they are offering to try to steal some of Apple’s customers away from them. If it is a superior device, then all the power to them! But it could also backfire. If some users are particularly snarky, they might just rip into the device…but again, it’s all speculation until the campaign grows!
I almost wish I had an iPhone right now so that I could test this out for myself!
