Skype for Verizon Launches
This is awesome! If you’re on the Verizon Wireless network, you should definitely keep this in mind: Skype is going mobile. This past Thursday (March 25), Verizon offered this product to nine of its carried smartphones.
What this application does is allow you to make Skype-to-Skype calls– why does this matter? Well, first of all, it gives you a crystal-clear call quality. According to MobileTechNews, too, it seems really easy to get your hands on Skype Mobile: “New and existing Verizon Wireless customers with Android 3G smartphones and BlackBerry 3G smartphones can get Skype mobile in a number of ways. Visit www.verizonwireless.com/skypemobile or www.skype.com/go/mobile from a PC to enter the mobile phone number to receive a text message with a link to the application. Verizon Wireless customers can also text “SKYPE” to 2255 to receive the link. In addition, Android customers will be able to download the app from Android Market™. New BlackBerry customers will find the application on their 3G smartphones’ home screens in the Downloads folder when activated.”
The application gives people (with smartphones) a chance to keep in contact even more simply than they already do. Plus, it’s a way to talk to someone via instant message or call, whatever would be easiest at the time. You can chat with text or with a top-sounding call. What’s not to like? Oh right, and as an added bonus, calls placed from Skype-to-Skype don’t count toward your allotted monthly minutes!
Says the website, “Skype mobile will be available initially on millions of best-selling Verizon Wireless 3G smartphones, including the BlackBerry® Storm™ 9530, Storm2™ 9550, Curve™ 8330, Curve™ 8530, 8830 World Edition, and Tour™ 9630 smartphones, as well as DROID by Motorola, DROID ERIS™ by HTC and Motorola DEVOUR™.” Sounds good to me!
If Skype Mobile’s launch is successful, it’ll expand further onto more phones and more carriers.
