Fall Movie Preview: Comedy

Fall is Oscar-movie season; we all know this. All the good-quality films come out in the fall so that by the time the nominations are announced, the movies will be fresh in your mind. However, people seem to forget that comedies are still around, too! And I don’t mean holiday-themed comedies that we’d all like to forget (Surviving Christmas?). I’m talking about some good old-fashioned fun at the movie theater. Oscar-themed movies are usually depressing, so everyone can use a pick-me-up! Here’s a few titles to look forward to during the fall season!

Couples Retreat (October 9)

This movie has been pretty heavily promoted throughout the summer. It stars big names including Jason Batemen, Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau (director of Iron Man), Kristen Bell, Kristin Davis, and a few others. Four couples take a trip together to an island resort, thinking it will be a nice vacation. Instead it turns out to be a couples-therapy-themed resort…hilarity ensues.

New York, I Love You (October 29)

This is a follow-up to the 2006 hit, Paris, Je T’aime. The idea of the films is very unique: well-known directors and screenwriters put together five-minute (appx) short films—that don’t have anything to do with each other except the fact that they take place in New York—and put them together as a compilation of short films colliding into one. I have to say that I really loved Paris, Je T’aime, and can’t wait for New York, I Love You. There are major names in this film, too, directors and actors alike: Bradley Cooper, Shia LaBoeuf, Robin Wright Penn, Natalie Portman, Blake Lively, Orlando Bloom, Justin Bartha, Hayden Christensen, Christina Ricci, Rachel Bilson, John Hurt, Ethan Hawke, Anton Yelchin, James Caan, Andy Garcia, Chris Cooper, Julie Christie, and many others.

It’s Complicated (December 25)

Nancy Meyers, writer of Father of the Bride, is back writing and directing a new comedy, It’s Complicated. The film stars Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, John Krasinski, and Steve Martin and follows a love triangle. In the movie, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin compete for Meryl Streep’s affections. Sounds good? Okay…sounds watchable?  I mean, come on.  It’s Meryl Streep.

Check out these movies in theaters soon!!
