What Movies Did You See Over the Holidays?
My God, there was an abundance of choices, wasn’t there?
I sure spent a lot of time, money, and effort seeing movies over the past week. So many of them just looked so entertaining! Granted, some didn’t look so great and I still went, so what does that say about me?
Anyway, I tried to see The Blind Side but it was sold out whenever I tried. Wtf? So one of those times I was forced to see New Moon instead. We won’t talk about that. I’ll just say: it was just as bad as I was expecting it to be.
Then there was Sherlock Holmes, Nine, and Avatar. Sherlock was really entertaining; Robert Downey, Jr. is just great. Overall the acting was good, the plot was simple but fine, and it was fairly light-hearted. It was the perfect movie to see in Christmas Day, really.
Nine was okay, too. As a musical I wasn’t super impressed because there were only one or two memorable songs (Kate Hudson’s song, “Cinema Italiano” and Marion Cotillard’s second song, “Take It All”). But, even in a shallow role Daniel Day Lewis killed, and the film was gorgeous. The costumes were beautiful, the actors were all beautiful (except for Fergie…they managed to make her look much, much worse than she usually looks), and the sets were glamorous.
Finally there is Avatar. I tried to see it in IMAX 3D but it was sold out (even in the middle of the day on a Monday…shouldn’t people be at work?!), but I’m almost glad that I didn’t see it on IMAX for the first time. There is an incredible amount of things to look at in the movie and I would have just been completely overwhelmed. Plus the 3D glasses were giving me a headache anyway. Okay so the only way I know how to sum up this movie is that it is probably the most visually stunning movie I have ever seen: the graphics are incredible and the CGI is flawless. However, the dialogue is laughable and the plot basically is just like Pocahontas, but just grown up. But you can make your own decision about it. I would say that it’s worth seeing in theaters, though.
What did YOU see??
