Joaquin’s Movie Gets a Release Date!!
I’m probably a lot more excited about this “documentary” than I should be. But come ON, it has been so long that people (including myself) have been talking about Joaquin Phoenix’s meltdown that the anticipation just kept growing and growing.
Well, my friends, the wait is *almost* over. According to Entertainment Weekly, Magnolia Pictures is set to release the film on September 10. If you think about it, that is SO close to right now! Aren’t you as curious as I am about this mysterious year of Joaquin’s life? My theory right now is that it was all just a big game, but I guess I’ll have to wait until September to confirm that.
The film, I’m Still Here, is Casey Affleck’s (yes, Ben Affleck’s brother, whom you may have seen in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford or Gone Baby Gone or the Ocean’s Eleven movies) directorial debut. In this “documentary,” Affleck follows Phoenix around for a year while he tries to become a hip-hop artist.
No matter what the controversy is surrounding this film, you can tell that it’s already going to be a hit (at least as much of a “hit” that a documentary can be). There’s been press for it for pretty much the entire year that Joaquin jumped off the edge, as well as the months after filming stopped. And then, of course, now, since Affleck and Magnolia Pictures will begin promotion.
What I want to know (other than all of the obvious “WTF HAPPENED TO YOU”) is whether or not Joaquin will be promoting this film, and how he will be doing it. One thing’s for sure: he won’t be appearing on The Late Show with David Letterman! HA!
P.S. Just a fair warning: the interview I posted above is INCREDIBLY AWKWARD. Just letting you know.
