On Again, Off Again: Is the Arrested Development Movie For Real This Time (Please)?!
For a couple of years now, Ron Howard, Mitch Hurwitz, and the rest of the “Arrested Development” gang have been toying with our (the fans’) hearts with the prospect of an Arrested Development movie. But it’s been like Ross and Rachel: on again, off again, on again, off again.
There have been difficulties with the cast (since so many of them are A-list movie stars now), crew, production companies, writers, etc. But now…the news we’ve been waiting for…it looks like the movie is on. For good. I’m not kidding this time (or at least Hurwitz says HE’S not pulling our respective leg this time!)!! It’s been confirmed by so many sources, including Hurwitz, Will Arnett (GOB Bluth), Jason Bateman (Michael Bluth), and Michael Cera (George-Michael Bluth…not to be confused with the singer-songwriter), and then taken back by each of them, too.
But, GQ interviewed both Arnett and Hurwitz for their upcoming TV collaboration, “Running Wilde,” and both confirmed the Arrested Development movie with flying colors. Yes, I know I misused that metaphor; just roll with it. Says Hurwitz in a lengthy, but hilarious, quote:
“”Believe it or not, we have started the script. We’re taking a little abeyance while we get ['Running Wilde'] up and running. But it is our absolute next priority and we can’t wait to do it. We’re changing some of the Bush references to Obama because we started it awhile ago. And the Bluths m ay not be vacationing in the Gulf of Mexico anymore. We also might have to recast the part of Uncle Mel, the former action movie star. But other than that we have a clear path. Believe it or not, I do not enjoy teasing our wonderful and devoted audience, which is one reason it appears that I’ve been so cagey about this. It’s just that I don’t want to promise what I can’t deliver.”
This makes me completely unable to wait for this to come out! COME ON!
