American Soldiers Re-Create Gaga

There’s a new internet phenomenon/sensation that surfaced last week: two United States soldiers (located in Afghanistan at the moment) thought they’d unwind by doing a remake of Lady Gaga’s latest hit, “Telephone” (with Beyonce).

I’m not going to lie, this is pretty hilarious.  My favorite moments of the video are between 1:05 and 1:21 (which is gloriously repeated later in the video as well).  Seriously, if you’re having a bad day, just go watch those 16 seconds.  Thank you, soldier.

Anyway, it’s not as if the rest of this homage to Miss Gaga isn’t equally funny.  It is. First of all, the camera shakes a little bit so you know that someone was filming this and obviously could not keep a straight face.  Second, when Beyonce’s part comes in…oh, boy.  At this point, more soldiers joined in on the “action.” (Get it? I’m being punny.  Kind of.  And actually kind of tasteless…so let’s just forget about that one.)  They’re basically just dancing around in strange costumes…I think one of them is wearing some kind of shoulder harness device that says “Steam.”  Am I wrong?  Isn’t that what it looks like?  Why would he do that?  Is it a parody of the back-up dancers’ costumes in the actual “Telephone” video?  Because, I’ll be honest, I don’t really pay attention to the back-up dancers.

I also like the still photos of the participants at the end of it.  It kind of reminds me of the end credits of The Hangover, only not quite so shocking.  And it also says it’s a “Steam” production, but again, I still don’t get why that would be part of a costume, let alone a shoulder harness.

Enjoy!
