Ke$ha Parody
I don’t often post videos that parody artists, out of respect, I guess… no, actually, that’s not accurate. I don’t usually post parody videos because they aren’t usually funny. This one, however, most definitely is funny. Plus it pokes fun of Ke$ha, whose appeal to the masses is one that I just don’t get.
In this hilarious College Humor video, a girl takes Ke$ha’s hit song, “Tik Tok,” and she changes the lyrics of it, calling it “Sing Talk.” Brilliant! It makes fun of everything that is wrong with Ke$ha’s song, and reflects about the phenomenon of it: why is this song popular? How do people consider it to be “good” music? Why did she feel the need to misspell those two words so horribly?
It may sound as if I’m just hating on Ke$ha…but come on, she can take it. On May 19 it was reported that over 4 million digital copies of “Tik Tok” have been sold in the United States alone. She can take a little bit of parody! I’m sure she’s laughing all the way to the bank.
What I’m curious about, though, is whether or not she will be a one-hit wonder. Her next couple of singles “Blah Blah Blah” (featuring 3OH!3) and “Your Love is My Drug” have performed pretty well, but not nearly as well as “Tik Tok.” I’m kind of hoping that her fifteen minutes of fame are up, but I have a feeling she’ll stay relevant for at least a few more months, maybe a couple of years, before her popularity dies down.
Until then, let’s just hope College Humor keeps coming up with these great satirical videos!
