Stephen Colbert Sings With Alicia Keys
I know I’ve mentioned in the past that I’m not a huge fan of Alicia Keys. That hasn’t changed. You know what else hasn’t changed, though? How much I love Stephen Colbert. Yeah, I said it.
Anyway, Alicia Keys appeared on The Colbert Report recently to promote her new album, The Element of Freedom. She performed “Empire State of Mind” (part II) on the show, but Colbert decided to jump in and add his own personal twist to the song. It seems as if he wrote a new verse about his experiences with and observations of New York.
Although I think his other musical endeavors are/were better (“Charlene (I’m Right Behind You),” which was featured on Guitar Hero II; also, his Christmas musical spectacular on Comedy Central…oh, boy. If you have cable, try to look for it showing over the next few days), I’m never disappointed when Stephen sings. Seriously, never.
It’s particularly funny and great just because he is actually a decent singer. I was just in the car with my mom the other day when “Another Christmas Song” came on the radio and she was like, “Ohhh, I love Michael Bublé.” Maybe that’s a little extreme, but that’s how average a singer Colbert is. (For the record, I think Bublé is more than “average.” It’s my mom’s perception that earns the term.)
Check out the video and also Alicia Keys’s album!
