Adele Stays On Top
For the second week in a row, UK-born Adele is at the top of the Billboard 200 with her hit album 21. So far, she has sold over 500,000 copies of 21, making it the most-sold album in the US in 2011 (surpassing Mumford & Sons by just 74,000 copies). She broke this record after just two weeks of its release.
I reviewed the album two weeks ago when it came out, and I’ve been listening to it practically non-stop ever since. This is the first album I think I’ve ever owned on which there is not one song I dislike. Seriously. Every single track is a gem, and her voice sounds amazing. I even have a version of the album with a few bonus tracks on it which feature live acoustic performances of a few of the songs, and she even sounds flawless on those.
There’s only one other performer I can think of who sounds just as good live as he does on a studio version of a song, and that’s Michael Buble. Both Buble and Adele have those classic crooner voices, and they have both perfected the art of flawless live vocal performances.
I’m really happy for Adele and her success with both 19 and 21. It’s going to be so difficult being patient for another album!
