EMI and Pink Floyd Call Truce, Sign Deal
After a legal battle between EMI and Pink Floyd, relief has come to them both. Though there have been disagreements over the past few years over how EMI has handled the promotion and sales of Pink Floyd tracks-resulting in the band’s suing (successfully) of EMI-the band has decided to re-sign with the label.
The agreement is probably a sigh of relief for EMI, who has lost a lot of notable artists since 2007, including Queen, Paul McCartney, and Radiohead. The relief must also come after the legal dispute as well. But, nevertheless, Pink Floyd signed with EMI almost 40 years ago and will continue to be under its umbrella for the next 5 years, at least.
The British rock group is still one of the best-selling acts in the U.S. and the U.K. today, having sold over 200 million albums worldwide. With battles behind them, they can move forward in agreement on how to pursue and promote more sales.
