Well, I can’t say I’m not happy! In their first Super Bowl appearance ever, the New Orleans Saints won! Even though Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts were favored to win Super Bowl XLIV, the Saints pulled through and topped the Colts 31-17.
After the game was over, quarterback Drew Brees reflected on how much the game really meant to him and his team. He told ESPN: “We play for so much more than ourselves. We played for our city. We played for the entire Gulf Coast region. We played for the entire Who Dat nation that has been behind us every step of the way.”
Even though the game was pretty close for the first half, the Saints recovered an on-side kick at the beginning of the second half, which led to a touchdown. It was at that point when the momentum changed and the Saints picked up speed enough to gain a two-touchdown lead on the Colts.
Both Peyton Manning and Drew Brees had good numbers and stats for the game, but overall, Brees came out and played a better game yesterday. After a rocky start with Brees’s passing game, he was able to finish the game with 32 completed passes (out of 39) for 288 total [passing] yards. That stat ties the most completions ever in a Super Bowl game (with Tom Brady in Super Bowl XXXIII).
What’d you think of the game? I mean, it probably wasn’t the most exciting Super Bowl ever, but it was still entertaining!
How about the commercials? I don’t know about you, but I got pretty sick of seeing only Bud Light and Doritos commercials. Oh well…until next year!
